Implications of the Problem of Armed Banditry to National Security in Nigeria.

Abstract:

Armed Banditry has been a challenging issue in Nigeria's national security. The rate at which bandits kill people and destroy properties as well as whole commuties in Nigeria overtime calls for serious concern. Until drastic measures were taken in curtailing the problem, the future consequences of the activities of these bandits to Nigeria's national security may better be real than immagine. The main objective of this article is to analyse the effects of armed Banditry to Nigeria's national security. The paper utilized secondary data to argue that armed Banditry is a major challenge to national security. It concluded that until certain drastic measures were taken towards resolving the causes, achieving effective national security may be a mirage of hope. The paper recommended for a reform of the existing national security policies and enhancement of existing structures and national security agencies as viable solutions to the problems.
