Abstract:
This study appraised the impact of stakeholder conflict management strategies on the success of public sector projects in Enugu Urban. The specific objectives were to determine the impact of negotiation and mediation strategies on the success of public sector projects. The study adopted a survey research design, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to 293 staff of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Enugu State, out of which 278 were correctly returned and analyzed. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and z-test for hypothesis testing at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that negotiation strategy has a significant positive impact on the success of public sector projects in Enugu Urban, while mediation strategy does not have a statistically significant impact. The study concludes that negotiation is a more effective conflict management strategy in enhancing project success compared to mediation. It recommends strengthening stakeholder negotiation processes, institutionalizing mediation frameworks, and improving stakeholder capacity in conflict management to enhance project delivery outcomes in Enugu Urban.
