Increasing glocalisation of our world and interconnection of people of different climes have thrown up more issues in the global scene than ever before. These issues include those of refugees, xenophobia, climate change, cross-border terrorism, migration of labour, light weapon proliferation and rapid spread of diseases from one part of the world to another. These emerging global issues have no doubt reinforced a form of study which looks at societal problems from global perspective and also analyses the way in which relations among nations influence these issues together with impact of international organisations. The academic discipline dedicated to this was diplomatic history which was later upgraded in a way to International Relations. Today, there is another academic title offered by many institutions which also has its content focused on the international system. That discipline is International Studies. This article takes a look at the evolution of International Studies. Literature on this topic is hardly available and the available ones erroneously trace the origin to the University of Aberystwyth where International Politics originated from. This study examines the difference between International Relations and International Studies with a view to establishing their evolution. Findings reveal that the content, though with little variations in scope of the two titles are substantially the same. Again, both adopt either qualitative or quantitate approach depending on the institution where they are offered. It is concluded that, the difference between International Relations and International Studies exists only in name and are of the same origin.

Analysis of Capital Market Development and Economic Growth in Nigeria.Adekunle Oluwagbenga David
October 2, 2024•DOI: 10.52589/AJESD-YKX6VNZX•Volume 7 Issue 4•1,736 views
This study examined the analysis of capital market development and economic growth in Nigeria between 1986 and 2022. As a result, real gross domestic product was used as the dependent variables while independent variables in the study included market capitalization, all share index, value of transactions, total number of new issues and exchange rate. The Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag Modelling (ARDL) technique as well as the Engle Granger causality test were used to analyse the data obtained from the CBN statistical bulletin. The results emanating from the analysis reported that total number of new issues had a positive impact on the economic growth while other variables had insignificant effect on economic growth. Furthermore, the causality results revealed that all the stock market variables had a uni-directional causality running from each of them to economic growth. Therefore, it is recommended that new issues in the capital market should be seriously regulated as it can affect the economic growth in a significant manner.

Land is an indispensable resource for all of man’s activities, and being an asset with zero elasticity in its physical supply requires adequate sustainability and conservation. Over the years, various strategies have been generated and adopted to ensure conservative management of land resources. This paper examines Nigerian land resources and conservation strategies; critically analyzing the economic and non-economic issues. Land resources conservation in Nigeria indulge economic issues from agriculture, urbanization and industrialization which affect the availability and accessibility of land for various uses, while the non-economic issues from cultural, social, environmental factors and policies basically concerned with the determination and control of the use of land resources. These have to be considered with emanating challenges and surmounted to ensure land resources conservation for sustainability considering future generation. Policy makers, researchers and stakeholders in the environmental field have to work and operate in synergy, evaluating workable and favourable conservation strategies: Balancing economic and non-economic land related issues to achieve overcoming emanating issues, thereby sustaining the goal of Land resources conservation in Nigeria.

Psychological Distress of Infertility and Assisted Reproductive Technology: Psychosocial Management Modalities of ClientsRachel Omolara Aina; Christiana Adetoun Owopetu; Iyabo Yewande Ademuyiwa

Infertility is the inability of couples to achieve pregnancy within one year of regular unprotected sexual intercourse. It affects around 8 to 12% of reproductive-aged couples globally, with one-third of cases caused by male issues, one-third by female issues, and one-third by a combination of both or unknown factors. Several treatment options abound and the couple may need to be managed through Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). Infertile couples often experience psychological distress in the form of stress, anxiety and depression with a diagnosis and treatment with ART. It is therefore important to provide psychosocial support and appropriate coping strategies during infertility treatment, as couples may lack information and strategies to deal with the psychological impact. These are actions that address both the psychological and social needs of the couple. Though very important, there is limited research on the efficacy of psychological interventions for couples undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment, particularly in Africa.
