This study investigates brucellosis transmission among humans and ruminants, together with environmental contamination, using the original nine-compartment deterministic model. The analysis examines solution properties, the disease-free and endemic equilibria, the basic reproduction number and the direction of the threshold bifurcation. For the system as formulated, the next-generation method gives a reproduction threshold that is consistent with the endemic-equilibrium existence condition: a unique positive equilibrium exists when R₀ exceeds one. A centre-manifold calculation verifies the coefficients at the critical threshold and gives a forward bifurcation. The numerical illustrations study depict the ruminant and human compartments and environmental bacterial dynamics, emphasising the relevance of ruminants and environmental exposure in brucellosis transmission. The model and results inform consideration of transmission reduction, treatment and environmental contamination control over time.

Mathematical Analysis of Typhoid-HCV Co-Infection Transmission Dynamics.Olawuyi O. M.; Isobeye G.; Abegye S. Y. (Ph.D.)

The World Health Organization had strategized a global eradication of hepatitis C virus (HCV) since 2016 because of its impact on global population. Its elimination has been prolonged because it was discovered that the diseases can co-exit with Typhoid fever and both illnesses contributing significantly to morbidity and long-term health complications. Therefore, a study was conducted using a compartmental model to explain the transmission dynamics of this co-infection leading to a non – linear deterministic equation. The basic reproduction number ( R_0) was obtained by next-generation method and the two criterions for stability conditions were computed.. The free equilibrium point was evluated and showed to be locally asymptotically stable when the threshold quantity is less than one. It was shown that both the analytical and numerical results agree with each others. Also, the results revealed that the susceptible population initially dominated but gradually declined as infection spread, while the recovered class steadily increased due to effective treatment and vaccination. Co-infection levels (A_C) remained low but persistent without control, confirming the synergistic effect of both pathogens.

Several authors have researched the phenomenon of sleep deprivation among students. In their studies, we discovered that they did not consider morning fatigue. So, we decided to fill the gap in the literature by using mathematical models to study the impact of morning fatigue. The aim is to develop mathematical modeling for the impact of morning fatigues on the academic performances of the students, a case study of the Federal University Wukari in Taraba State. In this project work, we formulated a mathematical model based on a system of ordinary differential equations to study the impact of morning fatigue on academic performance. We tested the model for existence and uniqueness and discovered that the model exists and that it is unique. Basic reproduction number was computed using the next generation matrix approach. Questionnaires were distributed to 400 students and the data for this research were collected from the responses of the students. The result of the basic reproduction number shows that morning fatigue can be controlled. Using Routh-Hurwitz criterion for local stability, the fatigue free equilibrium (FFE) states of the model were established and proved to be locally asymptotically stable. Sensitivity analysis was then carried out to determine which parameters that should be targeted by control intervention strategies of which the result shows that an increase in the acceptance of the control measure rate lead to a reduction in the prevalence of the fatigue. Finally, numerical simulation of the model was carried out and the result shows that Morning fatigue has great impact in academic performance of students. This means that there is need for students to avoid reading till day break which in turn brings morning fatigue.

Corona virus disease is seen as a dreaded disease all over the world. This prompted many researchers into carrying out research on COVID-19. The essence of these is to provide solution for eradication ofCOVID-19.In this research work, we considered the basic reproduction number which is a determinant to the spread and control of any infectious diseases. We used the next generation matrix as a method of finding the basic reproduction number. Data for the analysis were obtained from literatures, World meters and from NCDC. Maple 2023 software was used for the analysis. The results show thatR_0<1. This is an indication that COVID-19 is not spreading like wild fire as the case of other countries. This does not mean that Nigerians will relent and give room for re infection and spread of COVID-19 The information from this research work will enable the government, health care providers and general public in taking precautionary measures against COVID-19.

The challenge posed by malaria disease calls for urgent need for a better understanding of important parameters in the disease transmission and development of prevention and control of the spread of malaria disease. In this work, a mathematical model for the dynamics of malaria disease is developed and analyzed. There is existence of disease free equilibrium and endemic equilibrium point of the model, the local stability of disease free equilibrium is obtained using Jacobian matrix which is locally asymptotically stable whenever the basic reproduction number is less than unity. Finally, the results obtained in Table 2, Figure 6 and Figure 8 from sensitivity analysis reveal that malaria disease can be control if biting rate of mosquito is eliminated in the population
