Advocacy for Non-Violence in Nigeria
Abstract
Nigeria is a country of overlapping regional, religious and ethnic divisions. A little misunderstanding, disagreement or hate speech between the North and the South of the country, Ethnic groups. Islam and Christianity often coincide and have sometimes resulted in sectarian violence. Campbell (2018). This has been the case particularly in politics and elections. If violence so take place, particularly in politics and elections, the risk to Nigeria and its citizens will be so substantial, especially in sustainable economic and national development of the country. It is on this backdrop that this paper is out to address the importance of no-violence in order to ensure peaceful co-existence and development. It adopted a theoretical approach as its methodology and finds that there is undisputed evidence of poor economic development due to violence and electoral malpractice. The paper therefore, recommended that zoning formula be adopted among the six geo-political zones of the country, Sanction endorsement of candidates by individuals and groups and make government offices less attractive, and choosing to lead non-violence as a way of life.

The Case of Luke 2:36-39 and the Challenges of Women Priesthood in Methodist Church Nigeria
Abstract
The issue of women's priesthood has been a challenge to Christendom in general and the Methodist Church in Nigeria in particular. Little attention has been given to the efforts and contributions of women ministers. Likewise, they have been denied many of their priestly functions as co-workers in the service of God in terms of conducting the Eucharist, baptism, and solemnisation of marriage. The study is empirically based on the findings from 960 respondents out of 1200 questionnaires administered. Findings revealed that Methodist Church Nigeria had ordained more than 50 full-time female ministers promoted to the post of Presbyters. However, despite this, there exists a numerical disparity between male and female priests, including gender differences and disparity in functions that female priests could perform. Using Luke 2:36–39 as the theoretical basis for analysis, the study suggests the need for the Methodist Church (Nigeria) to allow female ministers to use their God-given talents without any discrimination or undue hindrances to promote the gospel's spread.

Assessing the Impact of Vigilante Patrolling and Community Engagement on Crime Prevention in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria
Abstract
It is worrisome that despite the existence of both the police and vigilantes in the various districts and communities within Dekina Local Government Area, there are still some elements of insecurity, lawlessness, intimidation, kidnapping, daylight assassinations, armed robbery and burglary etc. Hence, in assessing the impact of vigilantes in this regard, the study examined the prevalence of crime in Dekina LGA; examined crime prevention and control mechanisms adopted by the vigilante group; assessing the effectiveness of their roles while ascertaining the factors militating against the operational efficiency of the vigilantes and suggested measures to improve on their performances in crime prevention and control in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. Structural strain theory and social contract theory were used for the study. A survey research design was employed for the study in which a systematic simple sampling technique was utilized to select the respondents from the sample of 297 out of the total population of the study, which was 1304. A pre-test was conducted on every question in the questionnaire to ensure that the research instrument was valid. Two hypotheses formulated were tested using Multiple Linear Regression and Chi-square. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between effective vigilantism and the prevalence of crime in Dekina Local Government Area. The study also revealed that beat patrol, stop, detain and search, undercover work, personality escorts, and static guards, among others, were the mechanisms adopted for vigilantism in Dekina LGA. The study further revealed that inadequate operational equipment, improper training, inadequate funding, corruption and godfatherism were some of the factors militating against the operational efficiency of the vigilantes. Recommendations include providing more funding, proper training, and better welfare for vigilante group members to prevent similar situations that erode public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force. Vigilante members should receive proper orientation on handling sophisticated weapons, and exceptional individuals within the vigilante group should be acknowledged with awards to enhance their contributions to crime prevention and control in Dekina Local Government Area.

Peace building in Africa
Abstract
Africa has been the theatre of conflicts since the end of the Cold War. Intra-state conflicts have particularly taken a heavy toll on human lives in the past two decades. The state of insecurity in the continent has retarded socio-economic and political goals and set the continent decades back in all development indices. Consequently, Africans have witnessed unprecedented levels of misery and human suffering. This makes peace building an important engagement in the continent as a necessary tool to re-establish security and initiate the process of nation-building in war ravaged countries in the continent. This paper is a contribution to the debate on the place of peace building in a troubled continent. The analysis is dependent on secondary sources: the internet, textbooks, newspapers and magazines. The paper discussed the roles of local level involvement, government/state institutions and international partners and organizations in peace building in Africa. Identified challenges to peace building are the conception of peace building as a post conflict engagement by the international community, lack of capacity and proper coordination, lack of resources and external influence, and control of the process and programmes. To surmount these challenges, the paper recommended the involvement of local actors in the design and implementation of peace building programmes, indigenous capacity building, and central coordination of peace building initiatives.

Assessment Of Funding in the Implementation of National Health Insurance Scheme in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nigeria
Abstract
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is an initiative of the federal government of Nigeria targeted at easing the financial burden of healthcare on the general public while enabling access to quality healthcare services. However, progress checks in implementation suggest that there is considerable gap between policy objectives and outcomes. In the light of this observation, the paper examines the extent to which funding affect the implementation of NHIS in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The study which is a survey research was anchored on Grossman’s health production function theory and employed the instrument of questionnaire to elicit data from Health workers in nine health institutions spread across four Area Councils in Abuja, namely, AMAC, Gwagwalada, Kuje and Kwali and NHIS staff. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The study observed that paucity of funds affect the effective implementation of NHIS in FCT to a high extent. It concludes that the problem of paucity of funds is a hindrance to the effective implementation of NHIS in the FCT. The paper recommends that the community and voluntary sectors of NHIS should be aggressively implemented; and that government budgetary allocation to the health sector should be upwardly reviewed and sustained; and finally that the HMOs should be closely monitored to ensure that capitations to accredited NHIS health facilities are remitted as at when due.

State Security Apparatus and Emergence of Regional Armed Security Architecture in Nigeria (2015-2021)
Abstract
The emergence and proliferation of non-state armed security outfits across different geopolitical zones in Nigeria in recent times is on the rise. Scholars have argued on the causes, necessity and legality of these regional security outfits. However, studies have not empirically examined the character of Nigeria state as the propelling factor for the increase in these armed security outfits. This study, therefore, examined whether the weak governance of security by the Federal Government accounted for the emergence and proliferation of people centered non-state armed security architecture in Nigeria. The study adopted the documentary method of data collection, which was then analyzed through qualitative descriptive methods of data analysis. The Regional Security Complex Theory (RSCT) was utilized as the foundation for our theoretical framework. Findings showed that weak governance of security by the federal government contributed to the emergence and proliferation of people centered non- state armed security outfits in Nigeria within the period under study. As a corollary of the above, this study recommended building synergy and collaboration between the state security agencies and the regional security outfits which will strengthen intelligence gathering and effective security provision.

Delayed Promotion and Performance of Public Secondary School Teachers in Rivers State, Nigeria
Abstract
It is expected of every responsive and effective government to give utmost priority to the welfare and valued conditions of service of the teachers who are the human capitals in schools. This is a wholesome bid to the anticipation of achieving laid down goals of education, without which the teachers may not conform to established rules of engagement, an ensuing blatant non-performance problem. Emanating from sheer observation of this scenario, and owing to scanty literature and dearth of empirical works in this area, this study therefore aimed at the examination of delayed promotion and performance of public secondary school teachers in Rivers State. In the attempt to investigate the relationship between the variables, three research questions and three corresponding hypotheses were posed to guide the study. Vroom’s expectancy theory was utilized to explain the nexus between the variables. Random and simple random samplings were adopted. The sample size of 393 was determined using the Taro Yamane statistics, from the population figure of 36,215. The study adopted cross sectional research design and generated data through surveys. The instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire which was analyzed using percentage and chi-square that was used to test the hypotheses. The study found that there is a significant relationship between delayed promotion on the one hand, and public secondary school teachers’ reluctance to work effectively, teachers frequently absenteeism and reduced promotion of learning on the other hand. Thus, it is concluded that delayed promotion of public secondary school teachers negatively affects teachers’ performance in Rivers State.

Mass Media Coverage of Women and Gender Inequality
Abstract
Gender inequality has been a prevailing matter in Nigeria for many years. Despite efforts by the government and civil society organizations, gender inequality remains a significant problem. The media has played a crucial role in highlighting this issue and bringing it to the forefront of public discourse. However, the views of mass media coverage of women and gender inequality in Nigeria have become an issue that needs constant attention, bearing in mind that, a balanced society is a free and peaceful society. Anchored on the feminist Theory, the paper adopted the survey method. Findings reveal that the media is paying attention to women and gender equality issues, though it could be argued that more frequent coverage would be beneficial to the people. The paper recommends that media organizations engage themselves in researching gender-hood, to investigate the menace engulfing both genders, as well as proffering solutions to it.

Effects of Macroeconomic Indicators on Cost of Building Materials in Nigeria
Abstract
A fallacy may exist regarding the availability of affordable houses due to rising inflation and the high cost of construction supplies brought on by the struggling economy. Because of this, most developing nations, including Nigeria, are dependent on the importation of building materials. This study looked into how certain macroeconomic parameters affected the cost of building supplies. The macroeconomic indicators are the interest rate, GDP, and inflation. The study's main finding is that the prices of building materials are not much impacted by these macroeconomic indices. Quarterly data over a period of ten years, from 2012 to 2021, were used in the study and were taken from public sources. The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors Quarterly Journal and the Guardian Newspaper provided the information on building materials. The Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin was used to derive data on Gross Domestic Product, inflation, and the minimum rediscount rate. Multiple regression was the analytical approach utilized, and the findings indicated that the GDP, inflation, and interest rates all had a positive, substantial impact on the cost of building materials. This means that the price of building materials is influenced by key macroeconomic indices such as inflation, GDP, and interest rates. The report suggested lowering import taxes, waiving taxes for local manufacturers of building materials, and lowering bank loan interest rates, while Nigeria's government and central bank should develop policies to regulate and stabilize these macroeconomic indicators.
