The Impact of Social Media On Family Relationships (A Study of Jahi, Abuja)
Abstract
In light of the current surge in heightened social media use and its impact on familial dynamics, it is plausible to posit that social media platforms enhance the experiences of individuals and the family unit. However, submitting this assumption to thorough scrutiny and confirmation is crucial to reach a conclusive determination. Therefore, this study examines the effects of social media utilization on familial connections, with a particular emphasis on the viewpoints of individuals within a region in Abuja, Nigeria. The research maintains its contemporary significance due to the increasing societal need for familial cohesion and connection. In order to achieve the study's objectives, two research questions and their corresponding hypotheses were formulated. The researchers used the Taro Yamane sampling approach to determine an optimal sample size of 171 respondents, derived from a larger population of 300 individuals picked using random selection. The data analysis was conducted via the SPSS software, employing fundamental regression analysis procedures, with a pre-established significance threshold of 0.05. The study's findings indicate a statistically significant correlation between the use of social media and family bonding and face-to-face interaction. Therefore, the study suggests that to alleviate the negative consequences associated with excessive utilization of social media, families should impose limitations on the duration of engagement with social media platforms and prioritize face-to-face interaction. By adopting this approach, families can facilitate transparent communication within the familial setting and cultivate more robust and mutually beneficial relationships.

Digitization of the Broadcast Industry in Nigeria: An Appraisal of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State.
Abstract
Media Practitioners view the concept of new advancement in the industry from different lenses, thus, it may be as a result of how they perceive development in the society, which involves negative or positive aspects. Since the partial introduction of digitisation in 2012 in Nigeria, broadcast media organisations have been witnessing changes in their organisations both in texts, pictures and in sound. Impressingly, the sort of timely information that is being found in the public domain today for the satisfaction of people can't be over-emphasised which is termed as a precursor of digitisation. digitisation of media organisations entails the concept of converting texts, pictures or sounds in a computerised form which would be processed faster than the analogue method. Transmission to digitisation by many media organisations which the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State is involved with, gives room for quick generation of data, fast delivery and quality sound and picture presentations as well as multi participation in the Communication flow. The major objectives of this study would be to determine the extent of digitisation of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State and examine the level of exposure of the Broadcasting Corporation of Abia people towards digitisation. The study would also aim at ascertaining the effects of digitisation of Broadcasting Corporation of Abia. Hence, to unravel the challenges that are associated with the digitisation of the organisation, preferable ways of redressing the challenges would also be considered pertinent. Thus, the study would be anchored on the technological determinism theory.
However, the study shall adopt the survey design and also select 10 Staff from BCA in order to get their responses on the subject matter when it is the right time to get to the field for data collection.

Health Risk Associated with Conventional Skin Lighteners and Female Civil Servants’ Comprehension of Skin Lightening Ingredient Information in Anambra State
Abstract
Skin-lightening products have been in use for many years to lighten skin colour. However, these products contain chemicals that can alter the skin's chemical structure and inhibit the production of melanin. Therefore, users of these products need to understand the ingredients and the potential health risks associated with their use. A study was conducted to assess the health risks associated with conventional skin-lightening products and to determine how well female civil servants understood the ingredient information on the product packaging. The study aimed to determine how many women read the ingredient information on these products, how many understood the information, and how many were aware of the health risks associated with their use. The study was conducted as a survey of 348 civil servants from 21 Ministries in Anambra State using an online sample size calculator. The study was anchored on the Individual Difference theory and selective perception media effect. The survey found that a significant number of female civil servants in Anambra state do not read the ingredient information on skin-lightening products. It was also discovered that the majority of female civil servants in Anambra State do not comprehend the product ingredient information because of its technical nature. Despite this, the study found that most women were aware of the health risks associated with the use of these products. The study concluded that female civil servants in Anambra State were aware of the ingredient information composition on skin-lightening products, but did not read it, making it difficult for them to understand and interpret the information. However, most of these women were still aware of the health risks associated with the use of skin-lightening products but still used them because of the benefits they claimed to have experienced. The study recommended that manufacturers and brand designers should simplify the technical language used to describe the product ingredients to make it easier for users to understand. Additionally, regulatory agencies like NAFDAC and SON should ensure that manufacturers produce skin products that do not contain harmful chemicals like hydroquinone, corticosteroids, and mercury. If these chemicals are used, users should be informed of the negative side effects.

The iPhone Phenomenon, Media Literacy and United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Developmental Goals in Nigeria.
Abstract
In September 2015, the General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which includes 17 interconnected Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - quality education, reduced inequality, responsible consumption and production, and partnerships to achieve the goals. Smartphones are becoming increasingly prevalent element of the educational experience in classes, from preschool to graduating school level. The iPhone phenomenon makes students' lives easier. They can access their school information on portable devices. This is referred to as electronic learning (e-learning); smartphone is advanced mobile phone device that has improved considerably in the 21st century with the accommodation of features such as accessing emails, biometrics, online shopping, social media, and many more. The question arises whether the iPhone craze is driven by the passion for securing academic excellence, prestige, or social relevance. This author observes that the use of smartphones is gradually becoming an effective and indispensable learning tool used to enhance youths' social engagement. Hence, this study aims to conceptually synthesize existing literature on the iPhone phenomenon using the Marshal McLuhan Theory.

Women in the Mix: A Critical-Pragmatic Study of the Gender Representation in Nigerian Hip-hop Music.
Abstract
Hip-hop music has become a popular trend in Nigeria, as it enjoys a high level of acceptance among the Nigerian youths. Thus, this study examines the representation of female gender in hip hop music and the messages the music conveyed about female gender; it also unravels the hidden pragmatic meanings behind the content of the music. Nine (9) data from the lyrics of selected hip hop music were randomly selected and analysed using Mey's (2001) pragmatic act theory. This paper adopted a qualitative approach which is due of the nature of the data that was analysed and the approach that was used in analysing it. Findings revealed a dominant portrayal of slangy expressions suggesting sexual overtimes, female as mere edibles, women as sexual stimulant, seductive dance steps, and indecent dressing in the lyrical contents sampled. The paper also revealed that the implicit practs of exposing, seducing, luring and proposing were used in the data to show the role females play as characters in hip-hop music videos. The paper concludes that the use of vulgar expressions in the description of these female characters portrayed them mainly as sex commodities and sex workers, this questions the dignity of the African woman and the virtues she is expected to project to her fellow female folk, home and abroad.
