An Assessment of the Entrepreneurial Inclination of Undergraduate Business Education Students Exposed to Entrepreneurship Education in Tertiary Education Institutions in River State, Nigeria

Abstract

This study assessed the entrepreneurial inclination of undergraduate business education students exposed to entrepreneurship education in tertiary education institutions in Rivers State. Three specific purposes, three research questions and one hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study to collect data from a population of 310 undergraduate Business education students made up of 131 male and 179 female. The actual sample size used for the study is 90 undergraduate Business education students made up of 45 male and 45 female. Researchers’ designed questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument was tested for reliability using Cronbach Alpha statistics to obtain reliability indexes of 0.76 and 0.82 for the two clusters of responses and a mean reliability of 0.79. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions and independent t-test to analyse the hypothesis. The findings of the study revealed that undergraduate Business education students were exposed to entrepreneurship education that centres on education about opportunity recognition, purchasing, risk taking and management, product development, marketing, business management and business finance in tertiary education institutions in Rivers State. The findings also revealed that both male and female students have positive inclination towards entrepreneurship activities after graduation due to the education received and there is no significant difference in the entrepreneurial inclination of both male and female undergraduate Business education students in tertiary education institutions in Rivers State, Nigeria. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that Business educators should encourage and stimulate the learning of entrepreneurship amongst their students irrespective of their gender by exposing them to practical opportunities for risk taking and profit making.

Effect of Militancy and Moral Decadence on Education in the Niger Delta

Abstract

Militancy in the Niger Delta area of our country Nigeria, is a great menace that has influenced us greatly. Ranging from government, education, private organizations to individuals. The agitation for recognition and equal right has made the Niger Delta youths to take powers into their own hands. Although, it was initially a fight for a cause, it negatively affected the region greatly in the aspect of education. In the bid to silence them, the government decided the amnesty and reconciliation program but it did not yield any good result of encouraging our youth toward education. Though it was meant for the denouncement of the militancy for exchange with skills acquisition and monthly allowances it rather encouraged them to settle for getting rich without working for it and finally, jeopardized education in the Niger Delta. There are causes of militancy which are lack of local control of resources, underdevelopment, relocation of local government headquarters, poverty, marginalization, environmental pollution, educational opportunities, and poor implementation of the amnesty program. Another thing that has affected the education of the Niger Delta is moral decadence.Until marginalizationof Niger Delta region is curbed, it will be difficult to stop militancy in the Niger Delta region. Another way out of the effects of this militancy on our education is for hard work to be appreciated and good character celebrated, search for fast wealth cannot be eliminated and thereby, the quest for educational pursuit in the Niger Delta region can be encouraged.

Personal Attributes and Situations of Relapse among Substance Abusers

Abstract

Relapse of substance abuser is a global alarming issue. Many countries struggle to reduce the number of addicts around the world. Different studies have revealed significant variation in the situations and factors that lead addicts to relapse after treatment and rehabilitation. This study was designed to examine the personality attributes and conditions of substance abusers that affect their relapse. Random sampling was adopted in which 41 male substance abusers of relapses were enrolled in this study. To collect data, this study adopted Al-Khartoum Scale Mutawakkil Mahid and Relapse Situations Scale (Askar, Diddy and Askar). Results of the study revealed that the seven personality attributes among substance abusers showed steady decrease, while the eagerness and stimuli of substance, ability to control, and compression of addiction friends among substance abusers showed steady increase. Also, a significant difference existed in the personal attributes and situations of relapses among the participants based on marital status. Moreover, a significant difference was found in the personal attributes among the participants based on the type of substance that is used in favor of ecstasy causes. Finally, the results showed a positive correlation between self-confidence attribute and ability to control situation of relapse.
